Some changes implemented include the avoidance of certain foods or drinks such as alcohol or caffeine. Caffeine can make some people quite jittery and anxious. Alcohol tends to soothe a person’s nerves; however, a person is less able to deal with a social setting because their reduced cognitive capabilities. It increases the chance of anxiety attacks.
People who smoke should quit. Not just because of their health but smoking is a stimulant that doesn’t help the person relax.
Another social anxiety treatment that should be used involves the person getting enough sleep every night. When a person gets enough rest, the body can relax and stay strong in social settings.
By using any one of these social anxiety treatments, you have a greater chance of overcoming social fears. However, there are times that using these techniques just are not enough. A psychologist may prescribe medication like antidepressants to be used in conjunction with the social anxiety treatments.
