When you are looking for ways on how to stop panic attacks, the first thing you should look into is speaking with a psychologist/therapist. When you get professional help, your therapist is going to ask you all kinds of questions to determine what the underlying cause for your panic attacks. What will the therapist look at when determining what the underlying cause is?
First, your therapist will ask about your childhood to learn about what could have caused the fear or phobia. For instance, you have a fear of enclosed spaces. Your therapist asks you about specifics in your life, good and bad. During the talks, you come to the realization that you were locked in a closet as a very young kid. This could be a significant reason behind your fear of enclosed spaces such as a small room or elevator.
Second, you may discover that the panic attacks you are suffering from occur when you are in a stressful situation such as a boss at work or problems on the home front.

After talking with your therapist, they’ll suggest ways to cope with the attacks either before they begin or as they go on. Your therapist will suggest several ways including breathing deep. When you breathe deep, your body begins to feel relaxed which allows the oxygen to flow through your body and mind. When you get enough oxygen, you’re able to think with a clear mind, you stave off feelings of claustrophobia and panic, which can make your heart beat faster and your chest tighten.
Stop Panic Attacks Treatment 3 – Grounding The Attack
Along with the other two ways to stop an attack, consider grounding it. How do you do this? You can drink cold water or get a hold of an ice cube.
Stop Panic Attacks Treatment 4 – Focus On Objects
When you’re having a panic attack, try to focus on things around you and say them each one aloud. When you focus on each object, you stop focusing on what caused the panic attack.
